St. Joe’s Smith named Junior All-American by MaxPreps

VSN Player of the Year is a second-team selection
smithMount St. Joseph High junior basketball player Jalen Smith, VSN’s selection as Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year, picked up some national recognition this week when he was named a 2nd-team Junior All-American by MaxPreps.

Smith, a 6-foot-9 forward, was also honored as the Baltimore Catholic League Defensive Player of the Year, 1st-Team BCL pick, Baltimore Sun Co-Player of the Year,and 1st-Team All-Metro, and All-MIAA among others.

Smith helped lead the Gaels to a 37-4 record, titles in the MIAA A Conference and BCL and a second-place finish in the Alhambra Tournament. One of the top big men prospects in the nation, Smith recently narrowed his college list to the University of Maryland, Miami, Syracuse, Villanova and Virginia.
