Mount Carmel avenges earlier loss to Friends, despite Schmidt's triple double

Back in December Jon Schmidt scored 20 points to lead Friends to an upset win over Mount Carmel. In Friday night's rematch, Schmidt matched the 20 points and completed a triple double with 12 rebounds and 11 blocks, but this time it was not nearly enough, as the host Cougars rolled to their seventh straight win, 53-32.
Sophomore John Crowder paced Mount Carmel with 18 points and Ricky Meekins netted 14. In addition, Aaron Parsons added nine points.
Schmidt and a strong defensive effort kept Friends (5-10, 2-9) close for one half, but the Cougars stretched their lead to 12 heading into the fourth quarter.
Mount Carmel (15-8 overall) improved to 8-4 in the Red Division of the MIAA B Conference where they are battling Gilman and St. Paul's for the division lead.
