Severn keeps playoff aspirations alive with a win over St. Mary's
1/30/2010
It remains an uphill battle, but Severn kept its MIAA B Conference playoff hopes alive Friday night as it traveled to St. Mary's and topped the fading Saints, 45-37, in overtime.
Severn outscored St. Mary's 10-2 in overtime after surrendering a four point fourth quarter lead. The Admirals were led by 13 points from Max Segreist, while Tre Duncan dropped 11 points for Severn.
Severn (5-16 overall) is now 4-8 in the B Conference with two games to play - Tuesday at Archbishop Curley and the following Tuesday at St. Vincent Pallotti. It also gave the Admirals a split with St. Mary's to go with split it has already posted with Annapolis Area Christian, the other team in the three-way playoff chase. AACS and St. Mary's are both 4-6 in the league.
The Saints (9-10 overall), who have lost four of five and seven of their last 10, were led by Mark McNeill's 13 points and 13 rebounds.
St. Mary's has four tough games remaining, starting with a visit to Pallotti on Sunday afternoon. The Saints then visit St. Paul's on Tuesday, host a rematch with Pallotti on Friday, and close the regular season at home, on Feb. 9, with AACS.
In addition to St. Mary's, AACS plays at Mount Carmel on Tuesday and hosts Friends, on Thursday as well as Glenelg Country on Friday. The Eagles won their meeting with St. Mary's, giving them an advantage, at this point, with the tie-breakers.
