Elite baseball player tryouts to be held this Saturday at Extra-Innings

2/3/2010

The Mid-Atlantic Mets and Mid-Atlantic Red Sox in conjunction with Extra Innings, will be holding an Evaluation/Tryout for pitchers, catchers and position players at the Extra Innings training facility located at 7904 Rossville Boulevard in Fullerton. The tryout is for elite high school players that want to play college and/or professional baseball.

All players will be evaluated by Coach Dan Glitzer, former GM of the Mid Atlantic Mets and current coach and general manager of the Mid Atlantic Red Sox, as the two teams have merged. College coaches will also be on hand to assist in the evaluation process and will provide written assessments on whether, and at what level, a player can expect to play baseball in college.

In addition to the evaluation, players will also receive instruction from the coaches on hand.

The coaches will also be selecting players to be invited to play on the 2010 Mid Atlantic Red Sox Showcase team.

The University of Maryland, Mount St. Mary's University, George Washington University, UMBC, George Mason University and Georgetown University are just some of the colleges which will be represented. In addition, Lou Holcomb, Associate Scout with the Baltimore Orioles and the Director of the Mid-Atlantic High School Baseball Classic (aka Crab Claw Classic) will also attend.

Additional instructors include Bill Leonard, head coach of Boonsboro High School and an assistant with the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox, Sam Snider, former Baltimore Orioles bullpen catcher with more than 30 years of professional coaching experience, and Ade Parkes, CSCS, Extra Innings manager and head strength and conditioning instructor.

The cost is $75 per athlete and the program is only for serious players. Space is limited so players wishing to participate are encouraged to call 410-665-6789 in advance.

On Saturday, registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and with the evaluations and tryouts taking place from noon until 4:00 p.m.
