Boys' Latin holds back Spalding, 13-11

Visiting Boys' Latin established a three goal lead at the end of one quarter and worked the advantage over the final three quarters to earn a 13-11 victory over a competitive Archbishop Spalding squad, Friday at Spalding, in the MIAA A Conference lacrosse opener for both squads.
The Lakers (4-1, 1-0) demonstrated a balanced offense as nine different players scored goals, with four getting two each.
Wells Stanwick, Kevin O'Neil, Jeff Chase and Ryan Jarvis all had two goals for the Lakers, while RG Keenan, Patrick Foster, Taylor Stothoff, Conor Finch and Andrew Dempsey all netted one each. Stanwick, Jarvis and Foster also had one assist each.
Spalding (1-4, 0-1), which outscored Boys's Latin 4-2 in the third period to pull within two, was led by a five point game from Brian Cooper (three goals, two assists) and Matt Franchak, who finished with four points (three goals, one assist). Connor McRoy also had a pair of goals and an assist for the Cavaliers.
Both teams will travel to Mount St. Joseph for their next game. Spalding will be in Irvington on Tuesday, while Boys' Latin is idle until it travels to challenge the Gaels on Thursday.
