SEVERN MOURNS THE LOSS OF DOYLE
7/18/2006
The MIAA joins Severn School in mourning the loss of James Doyle, a beloved long-time coach at the Severna Park school and a member of the Severn Athletic Hall of Fame, who passed away this week after a lengthy illness.
Doyle, 60, coached at Severn for 20 years, serving as head coach of the Admirals' football and basketball programs. In 1993, he led the basketball team to a title in the Maryland Scholastic Association. In recent years, he has served as an assistant coach with the football team and was a member of the staff which helped the Admirals claim a share of the 2003 MIAA B Conference championship. In all, he spent more than 40 years as a coach.
In 1995, Severn honored Doyle with the induction into its Hall of Fame and the school also named its gymnasium scoreboard in his honor.
