Mount St. Joseph wins first two meets on the indoor track season
Gilman and McDonogh share second place with Calvert Hall in fourth
The Mount St. Joseph indoor track team is off to a hot start in the 2024-25 Group Meet season, winning the first two MIAA events of the year at Prince George’s Sports & Learning Center.
On Dec. 13, the Gaels narrowly defeated McDonogh, 96-91, for the top spot while Gilman place third with 71 points. St. Joe won even more decisively in the second meet, on Dec. 20, producing 129 points to roll over second place Gilman’s (78.5) and third place McDonogh 68. Calvert Hall placed four in both meets with 66 and 63 points, respectively.
The MIAA indoor track standings are determined by the number of points award for placement in each meet with the lowest number of points being best. MSJ currently has 0 points, while Gilman and McDonogh each have three. Calvert Hall has six and fifth place Loyola Blakefield has 9.
In the opening meet relied on its depth to earn the win, as the Gaels did not win a single individual event, but grabbed five seconds and five thirds. In the second meet, St. Joe captured to event titles, six second place finishes and four third place efforts.
