Pallotti and St. Paul's set to battle for a share of B Conference lead
Panthers and Crusaders currently are tied with John Carroll for first place; Loyola at Gilman highlights the A Conference slate
Believe it or not we are nearing the midway point of the 2025 high school football season, but there is still plenty to be decided in terms of playoff seeds and participants.
Perhaps the biggest game this week takes place on Saturday morning in the B Conference, with St. Vincent Pallotti (2-4) visiting St. Paul's (3-1) at 11 a.m. Both teams come in at 2-0 in the conference and they share the league lead with John Carroll (4-1 overall).
St. Paul's has won three straight, including league victories over Archbishop Curley and Mount Carmel, by lopsided outcomes. Since losing their opener, 29-28, to St. Alban's (DC), the Crusaders have allowed less than 7 points per game over their last three. Pallotti started 0-4 against a difficult non-conference schedule, but the Panthers rebounded to score 35 points in consecutive wins over Boys' Latin and Severn.
The winner will move to 3-0 in the conference and will share the top spot with John Carroll, if the Patriots can defeat Mount Carmel (3-2, 1-1), which visits Bel Air on Friday evening at 7 pm. John Carroll has also won three straight, blanking Severn and outscoring St. John's Catholic Prep, 42-20, last week.
The week's other B Conference encounters feature Curley (1-4, 0-2) visiting SJCP (0-5, 0-3), on Friday at 6 pm, and Severn (2-3, 1-2) traveling to Boys' Latin (2-4, 1-1) on Saturday at 1 pm.
In the A Conference, first-place Archbishop Spalding (4-2 overall) looks to move to 4-0 in the conference when it hosts St. Mary's on Friday (7 pm), McDonogh (4-1, 2-1) looks to maintain its second place standing when it hosts Mount St. Joseph (4-2, 0-2) on Friday (6 pm) and, in perhaps the marque game of the week, Loyola Blakefield (3-2, 1-1) heads to Roland Park to meet Gilman (3-2, 1-1), on Saturday at 2 pm, in a match-up between two teams in contention for the post-season.
Calvert Hall (3-2, 2-1) and Concordia Prep (3-3, 1-2) each have byes this week.
Also on Saturday, MIAA Independent Annapolis Area Christian (2-1) will host the SEED School.
